It has been a month since my last posting and in that time the project has moved forward tremendously. Once the Trusses arrived they went up smoothly, the gables were attached plywood nailed on and paper laid ready for shingles. All of the cedar siding has been stained, the windows and doors have been installed. These next few weeks should be busy finishing things up before the snow flies. Enjoy the photos!

Joel and Dennis Agree POUR Tuesday
With Dennis orchestrating the day to day affairs of the Sharkeyville Project the agreement has been made for a Tuesday pour( I will not be in town, promoting Cabot Cheddar in Philly with my amazing wife Sara). Staging is set bracing and straightening has been completed, re bar is in the walls, heck I have already applied the first coat of durabond to protect the ICFs between grade and the siding, wicked simple process. We are having visitors to the site on Monday and once again encourage anyone interested to come out and visit our Green Building LEED AMVIC ICF project in Vermont.

Waiting on the Trusses
Dennis and I have been setting bucks and blocks and the trusses are on order, two weeks out. I have been on the road down south, talking to builders and homeowners with the intention of getting the word out about AMVIC ICFs. Here is a photo from early last week that shows the Bucks in place and the blocks moving upward. Once again we are open to visits and look forward to getting this project dried in and on the market.

Moving Forward in sustainabilty
Dennis has begun his process of setting the first two courses, figuring window openings and is prepared to glue/foam the block down, place re bar and start moving upward. We worked on a couple patio slabs that needed compaction and should be ready to pour when the walls are complete. The job and the job site in general is a clean great place to work with all of this great weather. The sun is on us from about 10am-3pm. Retaining walls are complete we are simply waiting on some finer points that Joel is still trying to work through to really make this project a super success. Once again you are encouraged to stop in and see how we are pushing the building envelope in residential construction. We truly are building for a sustainable Vermont.

The AMDECK is Poured
With the help of local concrete guru K. Streeter the AMDECK slab pour went well and we are ready to start setting the second floor on Monday. Joel pointed out something prior to the pour. With the radiant in the slab and working close with the plumbers the plumbing on the project is more then 50% complete, using AMDECK. The electrical will go quickly, working with local solar expert R. Rivers and his crew at suntied electric. We are planning that the whole project should be dried in by the end of September if not sooner. The invitation to stop by is still open and we had a large group of Norwich University Architectural students visit with professor T. Latham. Thanks for coming by tomorrows visionaries and give us a call with any questions. We are moving forward and hope to keep spreading the news about our AMVIC ICF project.

On the road and ready to pour
After a long day on Vermont's beautiful roads I did not have to much time to check out how much the project had moved forward though I am quite sure that the radiant is done and that Craig, aka Mr Re Bar, set what he could of the mat of steel and we could pour whenever. We are having some visitors to the job site on Wednesday and I encourage anyone interested to stop in and see us.

Ready Set Pour...Almost
The pour is coming so soon you can almost taste the chloride. The AM-Deck has been set and is waiting for a few plumbers and a solid mat of rebar, 12 or 16 o.c depending on the specs for the span. Either way we are thinking that early next week we should be starting with the second floor and setting staging by the end of the week. Meanwhile the Soprema Waterproofing has been applied and we have been back filling with the help of Jermane.

The AMDECK is Set
Though not completely ready for the pour the majority of the work is finished, aka all the steel joists and blocks are set. We had quite a few cuts to make since the dimensions were not exact to the AMDECK. Everyone agrees it goes up fast now we all need to prepare for the pour, set re bar construct a pour stop and brace, which should take a day. The slab will be 4 inches thick radiant will be installed prior to the pour and the floor will span the 28 feet unsupported after the pour. During the pour we will brace from below about every 14 feet in this case. For more info, CAD details, Specs and general info contact us or AMVIC. I will keep you posted.

The walls are poured enjoy the Video!
The pour went super smooth and everyone was pleased. No issues due to a little more time taken getting ready always relieves stress. The AMDECK will start going up tomorrow before the long Labor Day weekend. Larry the plumber has done some research and he is ready for the solar installation when it is time. It wont be long now we will be drying this project in. It is so rewarding to use ICF concrete because the steps of construction are reduced and the project seems so much more complete once the walls have been poured. The studding and the R-30 walls of insulation are all included with the AMVIC Building System!

Pour the Floor!
Kevin was here this morning and thanks to the late day push by Dennis, Craig Joel, Larry and Derrick everything went smooth and we should be moving forward, weather depending. The project has had a few glitches but for the most past we are on schedule and should be pouring the walls and moving forward with the second floor pour next week. We will be using AmDeck for the floor system which has been featured on the Next Gen Home in Seattle. With AmDeck we will create an elevated slab that will span the 28 feet unsupported and will feature radiant once again in the slab. I will discuss it more as we move forward. Next week, if not sooner, the concrete will be flowing through the walls, wish us luck.
Here is the icf concrete mix 3500 psi, 3/8 stone, 7 slump add the plasticizer!

Slab Preparation
We are getting set to pour the slab, the flat work portion of the project. Dennis, Joel, Craig and myself leveled, compacted, laid out the vapor barrier and 3 inches of EPS sheet foam. Larry our plumber will lay radiant tomorrow and we will assemble a mat of re bar. The concrete will be poured Thursday at the latest. I have to travel tomorrow visiting a few jobs around Vermont. One in Calais, VT is another complete ICF project being constructed be the home owner that I am sure will be an exciting project.

The Footprint
The footprint is simple yet functional. 1800 square feet of living space a one car garage, with the possibility of conversion into a master bedroom, along with cathedral ceilings, radiant heating through out and active solar 1000 gallon water tank. This home will be the perfect place for a growing family or the energy conscious couple looking to downsize.
AMVIC BUILDING SYSTEM
Vermont Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) as the regional distributor of the AMVIC Building System and will be supplying the ICFs for the project. AMVIC ICF is a leader in the ICF construction world pushing design and innovation to the next level of construction. In the state of Vermont ICF building is still "new" construction technology, Vermont ICF and AMVIC is hoping to change all of that.
The AMVIC Building System is reversible, stronger, arrives fully assembled on delivery and making it easier faster and more reliable during construction.
Sharkeyville ICF Project is Underway
Here we go! The first in a series of six homes that we know will open the minds of developers and home buyers to what the housing market has been looking for. Rather then another cookie cutter ranch or colonial we are taking a different approach. A home geared toward saving energy, that does not compromise needed farm land, is located close to community centers and is a modest attractive home that a family can be proud of. Along with an assurance that they are lowering there carbon footprint.
This blog will be a running text and photos of what we are focusing on during the week. Be it the complete AMVIC Insulated Concrete Form(ICF) building envelope, the active solar heating component or our focus on a fully recycled job site. The project is in its second week of construction enjoy the photos and we will continue to keep the posts fresh and educational. We know that we will inspire you to realize that options exist to make Vermont a more sustainable in the global community.
